Instructions for modifying Excel export to work with older versions of Excel (and other spreadsheet programs).

OpenPoint Issue Tracker is configured to export reports to Excel 2002 or newer using XML.  XML support is not included in earlier versions of Excel and other spreadsheet programs.  The following minor modification to OpenPoint Issue Tracker will make it compatible with these programs:

1. Locate the templates directory (usually C:\Program Files\OpenPoint Issue Tracker\templates).

2. Rename the excel_export_type.html file to excel_export_type_EXCEL2002.html.

3. Rename the excel_export_type_SYLK.html file to excel_export_type.html (carefully check your spelling! Case matters!).

4. Restart the OpenPoint Issue Tracker server for your changes to take effect.

This change will cause OpenPoint to export reports in SYLK format.  While somewhat limited in its formatting capabilities, SYLK is compatible with many older spreadsheet programs.

These instructions are reversible; if you want to use the Excel 2002 or newer version, undo the changes listed above.

Note that on some reports that have an image embedded in the data (such as the edit icon), the image is represented as text in the SYLK format.
